As I talked about earlier, Garrett and Joy Nudd had a great workshop right here in Denver earlier this week. Jenna Walker hosted the event at her studio downtown, and even modeled with her comedian of a husband Matt for the shooting segment. Here are just a few from the shoot. Thanks for the great modeling you two!!!!
I have heard it from other photographers before, but some couples make it really easy to make great photos, and Roxanne and Dustin are those type of people. Roxanne has an amazing smile, and Dustin looks like he should be some sort of model. They got married in Ridgway Colorado, which is an absolutely amazing place that is for sure on my camping list for this year. It was a great wedding and I was thrilled to be a part of it.
To follow up on my D.C. at night entry, here is Chicago. An absolutely amazing city, especially at night. I ventured out on my own on our last night there, in the rain, just to have some fun and be a dork. I would of loved to have pulled out a tripod and spent some more time there, but I was already pushing it being out by my self late at night with a bunch of gear. I hate tripods, but they are mandatory at night to get good quality pictures. I can't stand seeing someone pull one out in the middle of the day just to get a simple photo, when you know their shutter speed is fast enough to ensure a good photo. Its kind of old school I think......
On my recent trip to the nations capital, the one thing I really wanted to do was see the sights at night. I was with friends, so I had to control myself, otherwise I would of gotten some more. One thing what was really evident, was how the sky changes color as the sun goes down. It started out as a cool blue, and eventually changed to a moody red. Very cool.
Carolyn and Adam tied the knot this weekend in Boulder. RJ and Nicole Kern had asked if I could help them out with a super cool wedding this weekend, and I was delighted to. I got started in wedding photography as a second shooter, and still to this day, I believe it is the absolute best way to learn. It is the only way I know of to get some hands on practice, without all the pressure of being the main photographer. Many thanks to RJ and Nicole for the invite, and congratulations to Carolyn and Adam.
What an emotional place. Its hard to even make a conversation here, you just want to be quiet and observe. Usually I would of done a lot of black and white, but after a long winter, the green was nice to see.
I love the atmosphere downtown in a big city, however it is not always the easiest to capture in a camera. Especially the people. For most of these pictures, I just turned on the smart focusing mode, closed the aperture a hair, and just took some random shots. There are a few where I held it up to my eye to compose, but tried to be quick, so that I didn't get that weird look like, "did you just take my picture?" These were all taken in D.C. and Chicago.
I met with Roxanne and Dustin today for engagement pictures in downtown Denver, and mother nature was nice enough not to get us soaked. Other than the nasty weather, we had a blast. I really didn't have to tell the two of them to do anything, they were just having fun all on their own. They will be getting married in only a couple weeks in the mountains, which I'm really looking forward to.
Before Amber and I left on our trip, we stopped by the Denver Auto Show to get some ideas for our next car in the next year or so. Anyway, here are a few of the ones that stole the show. Not really in my price range however.
Our hosts in D.C. were my best friend from Florida Jon and his girlfriend Michelle. It was great having them take us all around. Its great exploring a new place, but its also nice to not have to take out a map, and just be told where to go. Thanks you two......
We of course did the typical tourist stuff. I tried my best not to take boring regular landscape shots of the monuments.
Amber and I just got back from a great little vacation to Washington DC and Chicago. I took so many pictures, that I am just going to break them down into tiny segments. There are two air and space museums in D.C. The old one is located on the mall downtown, and the new one is out near Dulles Airport. We went to the new one, and it was absolutely awesome.
